A question about Mobile IM for Verizon?

I have the Blitz phone, and I was wondering if Mobile IM uses Airtime minutes. I have unlimited TXT, picture messaging, and so on, so I know I am not charged every message. If it does use Airtime, is it free on nights and weekends?
